Several Middle Tennessee fire agencies are hosting hands-on training exercises next week as part of the Firehouse Expo 2018 National Conference. The exercises, include live burns on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 16 and 17, at the Doug Young Public Safety Training Facility located at 701 Bridge Avenue.

Instructors from all over the United States will lead these courses and there will be ample opportunities for photos/videos to be taken of students in action.

Firehouse Expo is touted to be the "fastest growing fire-service event in North America." Come see what your Middle Tennessee departments are doing to participate in this event!

From 8:00AM-5:00PM on Tuesday and Wednesday, Illinois Fire Safety Institute's Gary Conney will conduct program that provides firefighters with the skills to effectively operate as a member of a rapid-intervention team (RIT), including firefighter drags and carries, breaching, heavy lifting with hydraulic and pneumatic tools, cutting utilizing a variety of torches, and hands-on, scenario-based, training involving a firefighter mayday. Skills are practiced under Live Fire conditions.

Captain Kevin Lewis with Cobb County, Georgia's Fire & Emergency Services teaches a class focused on Controlling the Flow Path in a Smart, Safe, and Aggressive manner. Students will learn to Control, Isolate, and Understand Live Fire Behavior with specific focus on Fire Control, Fire Behavior, and Vent Enter Search. Live Fire Behavior experts from both Los Angeles County and Cobb County Fire Department's will work together to provide the students with a peak skill set for the modern fire ground. This course will have three live fire rotating stations and will be physically demanding. Several course handouts will be provided.
