Some Fear Agenda 21 Creeping Back in to County Talks

Some residents in Murfreesboro fear that Agenda 21, a United Nations list of rules for development, may be encroaching on property rights in Rutherford County. Agenda 21 calls for the responsibility to ensure that activities within our jurisdiction do not cause damage to the environment. Agenda 21 also calls for states to cooperate in a spirit of global partnership to conserve, protect and restore the health and integrity of the Earth's ecosystem. That being said, the county is looking at limiting new home construction to one home per acre in the rural areas of the county. Right now, three homes per acre are allowed under R-15 zoning. A public hearing on the issue was held on Monday and a second one will be held on January 9th.

WGNS will discuss Agenda 21 in full detail on Friday morning during the Action Line program at 8:10am.
