The TBI spokesperson who recently took over the West Tennessee wing for public relations has resigned.

You may recall Michael Jones, who previously lived in Murfreesboro, took over the position in Jackson, Tennessee.

Former TBI Director Jason Locke allegedly instructed Jones to improperly destroy a government record, according to a news story filed by WREG in Memphis. The so-called government record dealt with the wife of Locke sending a private FaceBook message to the TBI alleging the misuse of state funds.

Locke was accused of having an affair with Sejal West of the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. Ms. West is the former Deputy Commissioner of that office.

Jones, the man hired by the TBI as a spokesperson, worked previously as the director of communications for the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services prior to being hired by the TBI. That department was the same office that West was a part of - the woman who reportedly had ties with the past director of the TBI.

Josh Devine with the TBI told WGNS on October 24, 2018, "In accordance with Tennessee Bureau of Investigation policy, the agency placed Micheal Jones on administrative leave on June 26th, due to his potential involvement in a criminal investigation concerning Jason Locke. Upon completion of the criminal investigation, an internal investigation was launched regarding Mr. Jones. When that investigation concluded, Director Rausch reviewed the findings. On August 29th, Micheal Jones resigned his position."

The former acting TBI director resigned following the allegations earlier this year in June.
