MINDFUL CARE ADULT DAY SERVICES License Is Renewed

(MURFREESBORO) Mindful Care, the only state-licensed adult day services program in Rutherford County for persons 55 and older, has passed its annual license-renewal test.

The Department of Human Services found no violations during its extensive evaluation of staff, facilities and program operations, Dec. 11. Mindful Care is located in donated quarters at New Vision Baptist Church on Thompson Lane. Open from 8-5 weekdays, it provides supervised care and activities for those afflicted with mild Alzheimer's and other forms of memory impairment, thus providing a respite for family caregivers.

Mindful Care's survey of family caregivers showed a vast majority responding that the program helped prevent or delay deterioration of the social and mental health of their loved ones. Caregivers also said their own emotional health had improved due, in part, to less stress.

The Alzheimer's Association reports that more than 10 percent of people 65 or older have Alzheimer's in Tennessee, and that is expected to grow by more than 27 percent in the next six years. In Rutherford County more than 3,000 suffer from the disease. Mindful Care is raising funds to help meet the expected increase in need for adult day care as the general population ages and dementia grows with it.

Mindful Care is financed through a combination of program fees, grants and donations. For information on fees and operations, go to Mindful-Care.org on line or call 615 542-4371.
