The Airport Commission tried to look a bit into the future at the March 15th meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council, as they were granted funding to conduct thorough studies on the impact to the environment as well as property values their planned expansion might have.  It was quickly pointed out just how entwined in the community the airport is.  The Water & Sewer Board moved forward to paint the Halls Hill tank, signed a new contract for lawn mowing services of 56 sites under their care, ordered materials to absorb odor from various off-gases, and upgraded their radio equipment and systems.  The Parks & Recreation Director announced this year's July 4th Fireworks display to be held in McKnight park, with a budget of $20,000, and the Chief of Police ordered new pistols, rifles, shotguns and accessories for the department, as well as paid for prisoner processing services provided by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department.  Property along Alexandria Drive, Florence Road, and Memorial Boulevard was rezoned to Highway Commercial District, one public hearing was held to rezone 0.34 acres along Bradyville Pike to Multi-Family District, and one other was scheduled to consider zoning areas along Kimbro Road and Warrior Drive.  That hearing is scheduled for April 26th.  Council amended Murfreesboro's City Code dealing with Standard Excavation and Grading Codes, by deleting the most recent edition, adopted in 1985, and reinstituting the 1975 draft.   Finally, the Assistant City Manager presented bids for the expansion of Hobgood Elementary School, which will add roughly 6,000 square feet, including 4 additional classrooms, construction of a new kitchen area, and installation of new, energy efficient HVAC systems.
