A political candidate has reported to the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office that some of his signs are being destroyed.
Rob Mitchell, who is seeking the Property Assessor's position as a Democratic candidate, said, "The suppression of ideas and the right to vote are acts of cowardly individuals. It is a shame it took place as we celebrate our nations freedom . It is one more example of why we need a change in our elected officials. Bigotry, bulling and abuse have no place in our our county or state and should not be tolerated."
More Destruction Discovered
Mitchell told WGNS News that the sign reported to officials was in the Halls Hill Pike area. Since that time, he has discovered destroyed signs in both Smyrna and La Vergne.
He noted that people seeking office place themselves personally and financially at risk to do nothing more than serve their neighbors.
Mitchell commented, "It appears Bill Boner supporters have torn down my signs placed on private property. The owner's of the properties contacted the sheriff's department to report the incident. But I doubt it will stop."
Not First Time
Mitchell did not seem to be surprised. He said, "About two months ago someone did shoot my cat. The remarkable thing is, 20 years ago when I ran for county commission someone stabbed my dog, broke the windows out of my car and the night before the election, put a lit can filled with gasoline in my driveway."
