There was a crash on South Church Street around 9:00 o'clock Saturday morning (8/11/2012).
Rutherford County Sheriffs Office' Sergeant Joe Duncan was traveling toward Murfreesboro on the Shelbyville Highway (231-South or South Church Street) when another vehicle allegedly pulled into his path.
Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesperson Dalya Qualls told WGNS News that preliminary information indicates 37-year old Sergeant Duncan was driving in a marked unit. At the same time, an off-duty Williamson County Police Officer, James Kiger was in a Ford F-150 and pulling out of the McDonald's parking lot, attempting to turn left and head southbound on South Church Street. Officer Duncan's unit hit the Ford F-150 in the driver's side door as it was pulling out of the McDonald's lot.
Duncan was transported to Middle TN Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash. Sheriff Robert Arnold told WGNS that Duncan was later released from the hospital, but would more than like be very sore. 44-year old Williamson County Officer Kiger and his passenger were not transported to a hospital.
Sheriff Robert Arnold told WGNS News, "As is customary, law enforcement agencies do not investigate accidents in which they are involved. Therefore, the Tennessee Highway Patrol is conducting this investigation."
Traffic was in grid-lock condition while emergency responders measured skid marks and gathered other crash data. The driver of the pickup was towing a dirt bike, which was practically destroyed in the crash.
