Director of Schools Don Odom has announced the selection of Dr. Clark Harrell as the first principal of Stewarts Creek High School.
“Dr. Harrell brings to the position not only a background in education but employment in the corporate environment as well as serving as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force,” Odom said. “He is recognized for his organizational management and interpersonal relations leadership skills. He is being promoted from an assistant principal’s position at Blackman High School where he was the High Schools That Work director and coordinator for this widely recognized program at BHS.”
Harrell has served as an assistant principal at Blackman since 2005. Previously he served as a counselor at Thurman Francis Arts Academy and Walter Hill Elementary School.
“I am thankful and humbled for the opportunity to lead in this capacity,” Harrell said. “The opening of Stewarts Creek High School creates exciting possibilities, and I look forward to working with parents, students and community leaders to ensure it is at the top of the already great list of schools that Rutherford County has produced.”
In addition to his education background, Harrell currently serves as a Lt. Colonel and Chaplain for 164th Air Wing of the U.S. Air Force. He holds three advanced degrees from Middle Tennessee State University and earned a doctorate from Trevecca Naverene University.
Harrell will begin his new duties in January and will work with other district administrators to hire faculty and staff members for the new school, to develop the academic programs and extracurricular activities, help with the final stages of equipping the school, and will work with parents and community members to ensure a successful inaugural year.
Stewarts Creek High School will open in August 2013 serving grades 9-12. The Rutherford County Board of Education recently concluded four public hearings on the school’s zoning and plans to make a final decision in December.
