There is a large amount of garbage being dumped into the Middle Point Landfill that is located in the Walter Hill area of Rutherford County, which means the life of the landfill maybe slightly shorter than expected.

That was Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland, who is one of many elected officials looking for new ways to recycle trash, as opposed to dumping it.

Both Rutherford County and Murfreesboro Officials have been in talks with Republic Services for several years - in an attempt to figure out new ways to better dispose of trash that is generated in our community. But, a slight problem has arisen that may actually go against what local government is aiming to accomplish - - Republic Services wants to expand the landfill…



Just how big of an expansion is Rutherford County looking at if the expansion is approved by the state?



Rutherford County government has been working on finding a company to help with the solution and McFarland stated…



The Mayor said that Republic Services is a private company, but an expansion was never discussed when he and other elected officials met with the company. McFarland said an expansionis "It's a bad deal for our community."
