(MURFREESBORO) One local U.S. Army veteran, who was seriously injured in Iraq when an IED exploded about a hundred feet from him, was honored Friday (11/19/2021) afternoon at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new home on Jack Faulk Street here in Murfreesboro.

Local Veteran Honored

Army Specialist Christopher Lewis and his family will enjoy a new Centex home in the Rucker Landing Community at 4409 Jack Faulk Street. Earlier this year, he received the life-changing news that PulteGroup is building him a new mortgage-free home through its Built to Honor® program.

At the emotion-filled event, Lewis said, "I signed-up for the Army in 2002 and left Nashville for boot camp.  All along, I wanted to be a light in the dark for those who had no hope."

Thank You For Your Service

While serving in Iraq, Specialist Lewis’s company was about 100-feet from an IED when it was detonated. The explosion caused a traumatic brain injury, and he temporarily lost his hearing and sight. An x-ray at Walter Reed Medical Center showed scarring in his brain that severely affected his memory. In addition to the TBI and cognitive issues, he also suffers from PTSD, Gulf War Disease, plantar fasciitis, migraines, asthma and tinnitus.

For his service to his country, Specialist Lewis is the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, NATO Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Chris is a fifth generation veteran to enlist from in his family, and said he was be proud to tell his children about his service.

PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program was launched almost a decade ago, and has awarded more than 65 mortgage-free homes to veterans and their families.

Again, congratulations to local 20-year U.S. Army Specialist Christopher Lewis for his service to our country.
