Feb. 23rd Public Informational Meeting on Future Land Use in Murfreesboro, TN

This Wednesday Evening: The City of Murfreesboro Planning Department will hold a Public Informational Meeting on the proposed Future Land Use Map Update, this Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022. The Update is proposed “to better capture the anticipated growth patterns and vision for the City of Murfreesboro.” 

The Public Meeting will be held in the rotunda on the first floor of the Murfreesboro City Hall from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Attendees can talk to Planning Department staff at the meeting about the Future Land Use Map Update (2022) and the update to Chapter 4 (Land Use) of the Murfreesboro 2035 Comprehensive Plan.

The Planning Department is responsible for coordinating the physical development of the community. Employees with the department administer important items such as subdivision regulations, zoning ordinances and more.

The City of Murfreesboro Planning Commission adopted a comprehensive plan, Murfreesboro 2035, in 2017. The Plan sets forth a 20-year vision for growth and development and establishes a guide for policy, program, and project initiatives.

The purpose of the Future Land Use Map is to inform development decisions, to ensure the efficient use of land to accommodate growth and development; to minimize opportunities for incompatible land uses; and to efficiently coordinate land use and infrastructure needs.

The informational meeting will include a brief presentation at 5 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in a come and go format, with information stations and staff available to answer any questions concerning the Future Land Use Map Update. 

All interested business owners, developers, and citizens are encouraged to attend.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

The City of Murfreesboro approved a comprehensive plan, Murfreesboro 2035, in 2017. The city partnered with residents, local business owners, and community leaders to plan for the next 20 years of growth and development.

The final result of the two-year planning process is the City of Murfreesboro’s Comprehensive Plan, a community guidebook that specifies policy, program, and project initiatives for the City. The plan elements include major functions of the City, including transportation, land use, housing and neighborhoods, parks and recreation, public facilities, historic preservation, and economic development with a focus on population growth and infrastructure.

The proposed updates to the comprehensive plan and future land use map are posted to the City’s website at www.murfreesborotn.gov  at www.murfreesborotn.gov/planning. A Public hearing before the Planning Commission will be held on March 16, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.
