School security and safety are issues that are on the minds of everyone. The Cannon County Board of Education recently met and discussed the idea of hiring School Resource Officers. Board member Bruce Daniel talked about the possibility of putting a School Resource Officer at every school in the near future. Daniel said that he talked to several schools in other counties and the one thing that stood out amongst those schools that had School Resource Officers was the fact that the discipline overall was improved.
The Cannon County Board of Education approved a motion to have Daniel and Director of Schools Barbara Parker discuss with the Sheriff's Department and Woodbury Police Department, the placement of School Resource Officers in all 7 Cannon County Schools. Currently there is an SRO in place at the Cannon County High School, but the officer is there on a limited 10 hour per week basis.
