An early Sunday morning home fire killed 69-year old Jane Marlin, who was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Marvin Tomberlain, at their Rehobath Road home in the southern part of the county.
Sheriff Robert Arnold explained that the Tomberlains tried to rescue Mrs. Marlin but were unable to because of the heavy smoke and flames, Cpl. Huggins reported. Firefighters knocked down the flames and found her body in a bedroom.
Fire destroyed the house. Loss to the home and personal property was estimated at $400,000, that news according to the Rutherford CountySheriff's Office on Sunday.
Rutherford County Sheriff’s Detective Randy Groce said Sheriff’s deputies and volunteer firefighters from Almaville and Rutherford County Fire and Rescue responded to the call about 12:30 a.m. where they found the body of the resident, the detective said. College Grove Volunteer Fire Department provided water.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Detective Groce, Assistant Fire Marshal Carl Peas of Murfreesboro Fire Department and sheriff’s Deputy Trey Nunley, who is chief of Lascassas Fire Department.
WGNS has received a lot of questions from listeners asking where this fire was located. The road in question is a little over a mile past the John Rice Ranch off of Highway 96 (Franklin Rd.). This is towards the Triune area if you are driving out of Murfreesboro. Rehobath Rd. will be on your left.
