The caller identified themselves as a member of the sheriff’s department and advised victims that they have an active warrant. The caller claimed that if the victim pays a fee, it will satisfy the warrant and they would not be arrested. The phone scammer then request the victim purchase a Green Dot card or pay by a credit card. If those two methods fail, the scam artist asks the victim for their banking information.

Please be advised this is a scam and no one from the Sheriff’s Department will be contacting anyone by phone and requesting a payment for anything. DO NOT give these con-artist any information. Hang up and call your local law enforcement agency. If you or anyone you know has fallen victim to this type of scam, notify your local law enforcement.
