Bill to allow motorcycle riders to go WITHOUT a helmet moving forward

Mar 14, 2013 at 11:50 am by Bryan Barrett

A bill that’s advancing in the Senate to allow motorcycle operators to ride without a helmet is strict.

  • The requirements for a rider to go without a helmet include:
  • The operator must have a minimum of $100,000 liability insurance coverage
  • A minimum $200,000 medical insurance coverage
  • Has successfully completed a Department of Safety motorcycle course
  • Has had a motorcycle license for at least two years, and is at least 21 years of age

It is also moving forward in the house. State Representative Mike Sparks who lives in Smyrna told us…

Sparks pointed out that a motorcycle accident recently ended with a death on Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna and in that case, the rider was wearing a helmet.

MORE:

WGNS' Bryan Barrett also asked Rep. Sparks if someone was going to challenge the seat belt law in the future. You can hear that and the complete statement on the helmet law below.
