Approximately 3,000 runners gathered at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic in the pre-dawn hours Saturday (3/23/2013). MMC is the sponsor of the event that raises money for Special Kids, the Christian based organization that offers medically monitored daycare for medically fragile children.

(Above Photo) At the approximate half-way point, this is the distance of the first and second place runners. First place was approximately 800-feet ahead (white shirt) as they maneuver down the closed lane of Thompson Lane.
Temps in the low 40s didn't slow the enthusiasm as the 15K began at 7:00AM and the 5K left the start line at 7:10AM. There was also a 1 mile fun run/walk that began around 8:30AM at the Gateway Pond.
An energetic and enthusiastic cheering squad (left photo) applauded, gave high-fives and generally were a pick-me-up not only to the runners, but everyone else around.
The course is relatively flat and mostly through the historic Stones River National Battlefield Park.
This was the second year that the popular Special Kids Race was held, and there were cash prizes for overall finishers, as well as awards for age categories.
The 15K and 5K runs began and ended at the new Murfreesboro Medical Clinic on Garrison Drive. The 1 mile fun run/walk wer on the Gateway Pond, that is immediately behind the massive new MMC facility.
