Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s (MF&R) District 2 and District 9 were dispatched to a grass fire on I-24 around 5:30 Wednesday evening.

Highway Patrol spokesperson Kevin Crawford told WGNS News that the fire truck was on exit ramp 81-A when a tractor-trailer rig did not apply its brakes in time and slammed into the rescue vehicle.

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services took two "Rescue 9" firefighters to the ER at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. MF&R's Public Information Officer Ashley McDonald said they did not suffer life threatening injuries.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol, Murfreesboro Police Department, and Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident. THP is conducting the investigation.  WGNS will keep you informed.
