Gas and Diesel Prices to Start the Week on Monday - 10/16/2023

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Average gasoline prices in Tennessee have fallen 9.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.12/g today, according to GasBuddy's survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 30.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 22.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

In Rutherford County, gas prices early Monday morning (10/16/23) were averaging $3.02 per gallon for regular unleaded. Current prices are .17-cents cheaper than prices recorded last Monday on October 9.

At only 2-cent's over the $3 mark, gas prices in the Murfreesboro, Smyrna and LaVergne areas are some of the lowest in the state. But several other nearby counties are boasting gas prices at $3 or cheaper. In neighboring Wilson and Bedford Counties, prices at the pump are under $3. The Shelbyville area has regular unleaded priced at an average of $2.98 per gallon, according to AAA, the Auto Club. In Wilson County, the average price for regular unleaded is $2.99 per gallon. Throughout the state, Lincoln, Henry, Lewis, Dickson and Montgomery Counties all have regular unleaded fuel for under $3 per gallon.

HIGHEST PRICES - The highest prices on gas can be found just over the county line in the Franklin / Brentwood area. Williamson County has an average price of $3.50 per gallon for regular unleaded. Coming in as the second highest priced county for fuel is a small county in East Tennessee known as Johnson County. There, the average price of regular unleaded is $3.34 per gallon, which is still 16-cents cheaper than Williamson County.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 11.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.55/g today. The national average is down 29.9 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 30.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

DIESEL - The national average price of diesel has fallen 6.8 cents in the last week and stands at $4.41 per gallon. In Tennessee, AAA reports the average price of diesel is sitting at $4.16 per gallon. One year ago, diesel in Tennessee was averaging an even $5 per gallon.
