Archaeological Society Meets 2PM This Sunday at Oaklands

(MURFREESBORO) The Rutherford County Archaeological Society will meet on 2:00 o'clock this Sunday (10/22/2023) afternoon in Maney Hall at Oaklands Mansion, 900 N. Maney Avel. The guest speaker is archaeologist Adam Fracchia, who will present "Documenting the Battle of Nashville: Recent Archaeological Excavations at Sevier Park."

Dr. Fracchia is an archaeologist with the Metropolitan Nashville Historical Commission and is affiliated with Middle Tennessee State University.

Overview of the presentation in his words: The recent renovation of the historic Sunnyside Mansion has provided an opportunity to explore and document the rich history found in Sevier Park in South Nashville. Over the last year, students and volunteers have uncovered a diverse assemblage of artifacts showing a history that spans thousands of years. These artifacts also include reminders of the Battle of Nashville which was fought across the property.

This Sunday afternoon's presentation at Oaklands Mansion will include an update on the ongoing excavations and analysis of this important archaeological site and its connection with the Civil War.

The Rutherford County Archaeological Society's meetings are open to the public and are free. Doors open at 1:30 this Sunday afternoon.
