Murfreesboro, TN - MTSU's Center for Accelerated Language Acquisition (CALA) has unveiled an empathetic approach to language learning with its latest offering: an American Sign Language telecourse. Recognizing the diverse needs of modern learners, this asynchronous program, developed in partnership with the University Honors College, allows students to engage with prerecorded classes at their convenience. With inclusivity in mind, the four-week curriculum is priced affordably and includes all necessary materials.

Since its inception in fall 2018, CALA's sign language course has resonated strongly with the community, reflecting a growing interest in accessible language education. Emphasizing interactive learning, the course employs engaging activities and games to cover fundamental concepts such as greetings, numbers, and everyday conversations. Through the Total Physical Response teaching method, students are encouraged to participate in storytelling, fostering a deeper connection with the language.

Understanding the financial constraints faced by many, CALA has introduced tiered pricing for the course: $70 for the public, $60 for MTSU faculty, staff, and alumni, and $50 for MTSU students, high school students, and teachers. This initiative underscores MTSU's commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all.
