Strong / Severe Storms Likely Today (Sunday)

May 25, 2024 at 01:25 pm by Rutherford Weather

Rutherford County and much of Middle Tennessee is at risk of strong to severe thunderstorms Sunday through the wee hours of Monday morning. All hazards are possible; damaging straight line winds, hail, heavy rainfall and tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area in and enhanced to slight risk (level 3/5 enhanced, level 2/5 slight) for severe weather. It's important not to get caught up in where the levels dissect the county. Storms don't follow along risk areas.

Storms that come through during the overnight Sunday into Monday are the main threat, but storms that develop in the daytime have the potential to also be strong to severe. It's uncertain as to if and how many daytime storms develop. The overnight threat for our area will be anywhere from 11pm Sunday to 2am Monday.

The National Weather Service out of Nashville is advising everyone with Memorial Day weekend plans to be aware of the severe potential. The right atmospheric conditions will be in play to bring strong to severe storms to the area.
