Sheriff Robert Arnold said the vehicles and electronics will be auctioned off beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Sheriff’s Office at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro . Citizens may view the property beginning at 8 a.m.

“This is a good opportunity for citizens to get good deals on property formerly owned by drug dealers,” Sheriff Arnold said.

Proceeds from the auction will help fund narcotics investigations.

Detective Capt. David Hailey said unclaimed property will also be auctioned. These items include flat screen TVs, laptop computers, digital cameras, speakers, DVD players, VCRs and some Ipods.

Funds from these items will be placed into Rutherford County ’s general fund.

Auctioneer Stan Vaught of Bob Parks Auction said potential buyers should register after 8 a.m. before the sale. Buyers may purchase items with cash, a personal check or Visa or MasterCard. Out-of-county residents must bring a letter of guarantee from their bank if they have not participated in previous auctions. Also, credit card users will pay a 3 percent surcharge.

“It’s all in good fun,” Vaught said, adding he expected about 250 to 300 potential buyers “Some of the property is good, some of it is not so good.”

Vaught pays for advertising and his staff but donates his time for the auction.

“We try to get all we can to return to the taxpayers of Rutherford County ,” said Vaught, a former county commissioner. “We do this as our donation to the community and to the Sheriff’s Office. We work well with the good law enforcement officers of Rutherford County and meet good customers.”
