Smyrna and Rutherford County Property Taxes to Likely Go UP

Nobody likes property taxes, that being said there is no easy way to break it to you that they may go UP. The Smyrna Town Council is looking at sending taxes up on property by close to 50%, according to WSMV. The council will meet next week to decide on a 46% hike that has already been approved on the first reading.

WSMV reported the increase is needed to ensure that more jobs are not cut. 30 Have already been eliminated from the Smyrna Government.

In addition to the Smyrna taxes on the upswing, Rutherford County property taxes may also be increased by 4% or more. WGNS’ Zach Troutman will dive deeper into this story later this month. The county Budget, Finance and Investment Committee will meet on Thursday at 5:30 in the evening and the full commission will meet on June 13th. Troutman will be at the full commission meeting to hear what commissioners have to say about the possibility of a property tax increase.
