A jury found Moses Bess guilty of first-degree murder for the killing of his wife in 1986, and he was sentenced to life in prison. The verdict came down Tuesday afternoon. Sam Stockard of the Murfreesboro Post reports a 12-person jury deliberated in the first-degree murder trial of Bess, who was charged with blowing the head off his wife in their Richland Road trailer on Aug. 19, 1986. The death was ruled a suicide 29 years ago, but Rutherford County Sheriff's Detectives Sgt. Dan Goodwin and Commander Bill Sharp reopened the case and got an indictment on Bess in 2012 as he was nearing the end of a 15-year prison sentence on four counts of child rape.
