The motel resident who Murphy was visiting told police that Murphy has stopped by nearly everyday for the past four months. Murphy lives in Liberty, Tennessee and told officers he was giving the motel resident a ride to work each day.

In 2005, Murphy was convicted of rape. He is classified as a violent sex offender.
