Mar 24, 2020 at 04:17 pm by Bryan Barrett

Governor Bill Lee is recommending all Tennessee schools stay closed through Friday, April 24th. The recommendation came during a Tuesday afternoon press conference. Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City Schools will be following that recommendation.

Rutherford County Schools spokesperson James Evans stated in a recording to parents...

Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn praised the governor's recommendation, saying "we know school closures represent a significant disruption for families and students and the recommendation to extend them has not been considered lightly."

She said her department will continue to work closely with districts and supporting leaders as they make the necessary decisions to ensure students can continue to access critical meal and other services, as well as receive high-quality academic instruction while they are out of school.

Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City Schools originally announced at the beginning of the coronavirus crisis they'd remain closed through the scheduled spring break, which ends April 3rd. But again - both systems will remain closed through April 24th.
