Craigslist Scam ALMOST Strikes Local Woman

A Courtland Street woman almost became another victim of a Craigslist scam. She contacted Murfreesboro Police Officer Dave Norton last Friday to report the incident. Someone responded to an ad the victim had on Craigslist. The suspect sent a check to her for the merchandise, but it was for $1,000 more than the agreed on price. The victim went to her bank and found out the check was worthless and she contacted police. There was no information available on the suspect to pursue charges. However, it's a great reminder to be careful when buying or selling on Craigslist. The Better Business Bureau has numerous reports of this type of scam where suspects try to get victims to cash the check and send them the overage amount paid. Only then do they find out they're out the merchandise and extra cash.
