Rutherford County has been abuzz on the controversy surrounding the 7AAA tournament consolation game between Riverdale and Smyrna, where both teams tried to lose the game. Former Riverdale coach Michael Burt, who is now a motivational speaker, won a state championship in 2007. He knows both coaches well and believes they are good men...

Burt says he would have no reservations allowing his young daughter to play for either coach...

Burt believes this can be used as a teaching opportunity to show young people it's not okay to play to lose...

Burt coached at Riverdale for nine-years, leaving in 2008 to pursue a career as a life coach. Both current Riverdale coach Cory Barrett and Smyrna's Shawn Middleton has been suspended by Rutherford County Director of Schools Don Odom for the remainder of this year and all of the 2015-2016 season.
