The Master Gardeners of Rutherford County will be hosting the Gardening Event of the Spring Season: A Free Community Plant and Seed Swap on Saturday, April 26th, 2014, from 9am to 12:30 pm. This fun event will take place at the Lane Agri-Park Community Center, 315 John Rice Blvd. in Murfreesboro.

The Plant & Seed Swap is for anyone wanting to expand their garden plants and try new varieties by swapping extra items they have with others in the community. Simply bring items that are packaged (to contain the soil) and labeled with the name of the plant, as well as planting and care instructions.

Items accepted for swapping include: flower, vegetable & herb plants, perennial divisions, starts & seedlings, seeds, small trees & shrubs, and houseplants.

We do ask that invasive plants be left at home (if it is taking over your yard, please do not share it)!

How does the Swap work? Bring 1 item = take 1 item. For example, you may bring a houseplant and go home with a tree! If you bring 10 items you may take home 10 items. If you have extra to share, please bring them along because this year we want everyone in the community to be able to participate. If you have nothing to share, what can you do to participate? Bring a canned vegetable! 1 can = 1 plant. All foods collected will be donated to Journey Home’s Community Café.

In addition, we will be offering exciting demonstrations, educational gardening displays, a fabulous silent auction and a gardening book & magazine sale with rock bottom prices! Of course, there will be Certified Master Gardeners available to answer your gardening questions.
