A not-too-newcomer to Murfreesboro, Gary McGuire and his family have made quite a difference in the restaurant world here.  Originally from the Nashville area where McGuire was a Metro school teacher for sixteen years, the family actually came to the ‘Boro by way of Oregon where Gary and wife Jennifer were family nurse practitioners. Add in a few years as a software engineer where he created the successful PERRLA program used by students all over the world, stir in a bit of travel, and you have just the man to bring a traditional Irish pub to Murfreesboro: O’Possum’s on north Memorial in the Kroger center across from SportsCom.

Almost the entire McGuire family is involved in running O’Possum’s. Son Nick is the general manager and his wife, Amy, is the front-of-the-house manager. Younger son Andrew is the brewmaster for their small but tasty brewery offerings while Jennifer does the books and tries to keep everyone in line. O’Possum’s brings a more traditionally real Irish pub flavor. It’s not a sports bar with lots of TV’s, but more an extension to the customer’s living rooms. It’s also a responsible place emphasizing recycling, led lighting, and using locally produced foods whenever possible.

O’Possum’s is one of many local family run businesses that make Murfreesboro such an inviting city to live in or visit. O’Possum’s is on Memorial Blvd. in the Kroger Shopping Center.
