Heroin, methamphetamine and stolen merchandise was Murfreesboro Police reportedly found on a man accused of stealing items from Walmart.
Police were called to the store on Joe B. Jackson Parkway at 231 South when a store employee allegedly saw a man pocketing merchandise. Evidently, the worker called police out of the fear that the subject would leave Walmart without paying for the goods.
When police arrived, they located a silver Ford Focus circling the parking lot. Police stopped to talk with the occupants of the car who told them they were waiting on their friend. As luck would have it, the friend happened to be the man accused of pocketing merchandise.
When the driver of the car told police they could not search it, a K9 was called in. The police dog alerted officers that drugs may be inside the vehicle. With probable cause acting in the favor of law enforcement, police searched and reported they found both heroin and meth.
The man who was accused of shoplifting was located and arrested after allegedly admitting to officers the drugs found in the car were his. He was also found to be in possession of about $48 in Walmart merchandise prior to being transported to jail.
Thomas J Hawkins was charged with possession of a schedule I and II drug. He was also charged with theft. The 29 year old man will be due in court this November.
