Man charged with vehicular homicide in Bedford County crash

In nearby Bedford County, a 19-year-old has been charged with vehicular homicide.

Investigators say Cristian Ruiz was the driver that caused the fatal head-on-collision this past week. The Madison, TN resident is currently behind bars unable to make bond, which was set at $1-million. He is being held in the Bedford County Jail.

In the wreck, 25-year-old Ty Daeria Green and a 6-year-old child were killed. The head-on-collision happened on State Highway 64 in Beechgrove, near Walker Road. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred just after nightfall on March 23, 2021.

The victims in the accident were driving a small 2012 Audi A4 sedan and the suspect was driving a 2016 GMC Terrain, a mid-sized SUV.

The collision occurred when Ruiz tried to pass another vehicle, according to the THP.

In addition to the vehicular homicide charge, Ruiz is also facing his first DUI charge and two counts of vehicular assault.
