Nov 28, 2011 at 04:28 pm by Bryan Barrett

The woman accused of killing MTSU Lady Raiders basketball player Tina Stewart was in court Monday (11/28/2011). The attorney for Shanterrica Madden requested that Judge Don Ash rule on 10 seperate issues concerning the upcoming trial of his client.

Madden says she was acting in self-defense with actions that led to the death of her roomate, Lady Raider's basketball star Tina Stewart. The fatal stabbing occured on the evening of March 2, 2011 at the student's Raiders Crossing Apartment on Hazelwood Drive.

One of those motions deals with evidence tampering. Madden allegedly hid the knife she reportedly used to kill Stewart after the murder took place.

The judge approved eight of the requests, but is still considering which of the more than 1,000 photos can be presented to jurors. He also granted the request that witnesses will not be allowed to hear testimony before taking the stand.

Judge Ash indicated that he will give a written ruling on whether to allow jurrors to ask questions.

Madden's attorney, Joe Brandon, Jr., publicly indicated he feels it is unconstitutional for jurrors to be a part of the questioning process. However, Judge Ash allows jurrors to turn-in written questions before recess.

Shanterrica Madden was indicted on July 7, 2011 on charges of first degree murder and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of her college roommate, 21-year old Tina Stewart.

Shanterrica Madden's murder trial is scheduled to begin January 31st.
