New Law Allows Online Course for Gun Permits

Jun 25, 2019 at 05:20 pm by Bryan Barrett

Tennessee has a new gun law that allows people to get their concealed carry permits online.

This means they could get their permit without having any experience shooting a gun.

The bill states an applicant must submit proof of a completed department approved handgun safety course within one year of the date of application.

Officials say the new requirement is a 90-minute online course, instead of taking the previous requirement of an eight hour in-person, hands-on course.

State Representative Andy Holt sponsored the bill and says it is about saving people money and time.

It will go into effect on January 1st, 2020.
