Telephone scammers are at it again. Rutherford County Sheriff's spokesperson Lisa Marchesoni told NewsRadio WGNS they're asking for money to avoid being arrested.

These criminals used the name of Sheriff's Major Bill Sharp in an effort to get money recently.

Using the name of Sheriff's employees, the scammers called citizens and told them they must put money on a green-dot card and give the caller the information to avoid arrests for missing grand jury.

Two citizens have already called Major Sharp and asked about the scam.

Major Sharp said, "If you receive a call like this, simply hang up. The Sheriff's Office NEVER calls citizens and asks for money. to missing grand jury or for arrests.

Do not get a money card and give information to someone you don't know.
