State Representative Mike Sparks had one of his well-known no holds barred talks with the Murfreesboro Rotary Club on Tuesday (12/22/2015), and he interacted on the local landfill issue, saying, "If you're not concerned with recycling now, you will be when the Middlepoint Landfill is full and we see our taxes run through the ceiling to pay the costs of trucking our garbage great distances."

Sparks' straight forward approach stepped on toes when he talked about text book affordability and exploding education costs.

He said, "Changes in higher education are a must, tax payers can't afford to fund what it costs now."

He talked about a local minority church being locked out, and how it dramatically caused a major drop in membership. Sparks was shocked that mass media didn't touch the story.

Later, he referred to a local business owner as "piece of crap" by selling drugs to area teens, along with human sex trafficking.

One Rotarian looked dazed when they said, "It was an eye opening lunch conversation. He makes you think."

Sparks told of a Smyrna woman who borrowed $300 and paid back $3,000 in a period of one year, and the local firm kept harassing her for $800 more bucks.

The Tennessee General Assembly reconvenes in January, and noted he's embarrased when colleagues say things like "We finished our business quickly to save taxpayers' money. Wow--we need to look at some of the legislation we pass more closely and take our financial responsibility more seriously."

Representative Sparks said, "Your input is always welcome".

In fact, he concluded by giving out his cell phone number (615-525-3198) and encouraging the public to share their concerns.
