Leading an investigation resulting in arrests of two suspects for a morning crime spree earned Sheriff's Deputy A.J. Ross honors as Ford of Murfreesboro's Officer of the Month for January.

Deputy Ross linked together the suspects who allegedly stole two vehicles, fled from deputies and burned one of the vehicles the morning of Jan. 7. By the afternoon, two suspects were charged with two counts of theft, arson and evading arrest.

Sheriff Robert Arnold said Deputy Ross went beyond the call of duty.

"Deputy Ross used investigative techniques to follow leads that led to the identification and arrest of these two suspects bent on a crime spree that morning," Sheriff Arnold said. "Deputy Ross' actions stopped those suspects from committing more crimes against innocent victims."

Owner David Lee of Ford of Murfreesboro presented Deputy Ross a watch for his efforts.

"Deputy Ross' actions are to be greatly commended," Lee said. "He acted quickly and used his immense training to solve what easily could have escalated into a much bigger problem. Congratulations to Deputy Ross."

Patrol Capt. Steve Spence, who nominated Deputy Ross, said Ross set an example for a new deputy training with him.

"His efforts are a credit to him and are a testament to his dedication to law enforcement and his trainees," Capt. Spence said.
