Someone using Sheriff Robert Arnold's name has reportedly contacted at least one former deputy, trying to extort money to help pay for legal fees.

NewsChannel 5 reports a former deputy, who only wanted the television station to use his first name, Dana, has received several threatening texts.

One said "You shouldn't have been anti-Arnold. You'll answer for it now." Another "If you could make a donation to the sheriff's lawyer fee fund, we can act as if this never happened."

NewsChannel 5's Nick Beres reports the staff at the sheriff's department was unaware of the text until he contacted them. The case is being looked into by authorities after the former deputy filed a police report.
