Stealing a trailer and getting caught are two things that you don't want to happen. However, it appears to have happened in Murfreesboro early Sunday morning (10/9/16).

Smyrna resident David Vernon Hart was apparently spotted by a Good Samaritan who saw him backing his truck up to a nearby trailer. When police arrived they saw Hart pulling his SUV onto West Main Street with the trailer in tow. Police say that Hart was pulling into the road with his headlights turned off, even though it was dark outside. So, police pulled the 49 year old over.

Police report that when Hart stepped out of the SUV, a glass pipe with residue on it fell to the ground. Hart was also said to be unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol.

Officers later found a broken padlock in Harts vehicle, a padlock that matched an identical trailer lock found at the scene of where the first trailer was said to be stolen.

After police investigated the case, it was determined that the trailer was owned by Jones Cabinet Shop. Needless to say, Hart was arrested for the trailer theft, charged for the third time with DUI and charged for the sixth time for driving on a revoked license. He will head to court on January 31, 2017.
