Suspect who allegedly led authorities on a high speed chase down Northfield and Broad Streets to appear in court

Violent actions allegedly committed by a suspect this past April prompted six Rutherford County Sheriff's Office deputies to join Murfreesboro Police in apprehending the suspect, Sheriff Robert Arnold said. The suspect in question will soon face the courts in Rutherford County.

Sgt. Chris Owens reported that 30-year old Asa Gilbert of Smyrna was wanted for stealing a gun from his father that he fired inside his father's home, assaulting his parents, stealing vehicles and fleeing from police with passengers inside the car, that information according to Lisa Marchesoni, Public Information Officer for the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.

Asa Gilbert will appear in court this September during a Discovery Date where he and his lawyer will learn of what evidence authorities have against him. A plea date has been set for the end of September in Circuit Court.

A Murfreesboro Police arrest report stated:

"At the intersection of Pitts Lane and East Northfield, the vehicle crossed over and drove down the oncoming lanes. It continued at a high rate of speed, almost striking a truck at the intersection of East Northfield and North Tennessee Boulevard. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed through red traffic lights and then turned right onto Ash. It continued onto South East Broad Street, almost striking another vehicle, and headed North West."

The report also highlighted how Gilbert almost struck a stationary patrol car.

Court documents show that Gilbert will be before a judge for what is called a "Discovery Date" The Discovery is the pre-trial phase where the accused learns of evidence against him that was previously collected by detectives. As of Monday, Gilbert will face over 18-charges when he appears in court. Some of those charges deal with an assault while other charges focus on evading arrest and driving on a revoked license for the 5th time.
