In May of this year, WGNS posted a video on our website that featured a man being arrested by police in LaVergne. The subject who was in that video claimed that he was unfairly struck by officers. At this point, the results of the investigation into that incident have yet to be disclosed.

After the incident was reported on WGNS, La Vergne Police Chief Mike Walker formalized a request for an independent investigation of the incident. The chief sent a request to the office of District Attorney General Bill Whitesell, asking his office to initiate the investigation.

As you may recall, 28-year old Mario Ticas was arrested on charges of assault and public drunkenness in May. L-P-D officers on the scene reported Ticas was intoxicated and wanted to fight the responding officers. The arrest, which unfolded at a small apartment complex at 5479 Murfreesboro Road in LaVergne, was caught on cellphone video.

Assistant LaVergne Police Chief Keith Lowery told WGNS in an email...

"The officers arrived and were engaged by Mr. Ticas who appeared intoxicated and wanted to then fight with the responding officers."

"One of the officers that he attacked was a K9 officer who had his partner with him. Another Crime Suppression Officer was assaulted at the same time. Mr. Ticas was charged with 2 counts of Assault on an Officer and also with Public Intoxication."

WGNS recently requested an update on the investigation from Assistant Chief Lowery, but apparently, no update is available.
