Rutherford County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a Wednesday night shooting on Rocky Hill Road that reportedly began as a physical assault, Sheriff Robert F. Arnold says.

Timothy Fathera, 55, of 9849 Rocky Hill Road, called the sheriff’s office at about 7:40 p.m. to report he’d shot Robert Waddell after Waddell came to his home and began repeatedly striking him.

Waddell, 51, left the scene in a vehicle but a relative called for an ambulance soon after at a home on Holly Grove Road. Waddell was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder and later released.

Sheriff’s Detective Richard Brinkley is leading the investigation, Sheriff Arnold said.

After the investigation is completed, Brinkley will present his findings to the 16th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office to determine if any charges will be taken, the sheriff said.
