“We want to sincerely thank our community partners at First Tennessee Bank for making this day possible,” said Regional CEO, Joel Sullivan.   “Their support for this event will strengthen our community by training and empowering our friends and neighbors to respond to emergencies.”

The event will be offered at 4 First Tennessee Bank branch locations throughout Middle Tennessee at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. this Saturday, April 20th.  Each 45 minute session includes a FREE, non-certification, hands-only CPR course that also includes training on how to respond to conscious choking victims.   Registration is required.  Please log on to: redcross.org/savealifesaturday2013 or call 615.250.4277 for more information.  The 11 a.m. session at the Murfreesboro location will be offered in Spanish.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), one of the leading causes of death in the United States, strikes over 300,000 victims each year, of which about five percent survive.  Studies have shown that being trained in hands-only CPR can make the lifesaving difference when someone suffers sudden cardiac arrest. Hands-only CPR is a potentially lifesaving technique involving no mouth to mouth contact. It is best used in emergencies where someone has seen another person suddenly collapse. The hands-only technique increases the likelihood of surviving cardiac emergencies that occur outside medical settings. The Red Cross is able to provide this free training through the generous support of the First Tennessee Foundation.

“This is invaluable and important training that we’re proud to help provide in partnership with the American Red Cross. Every person trained is a potential life-saver," said Doyle R. Rippee, First Tennessee Middle Tennessee Market President. "We are honored to be a partner in this endeavor and commend the Red Cross for leading it.”

Those unable to attend a Save-a-Life Saturday event can also visit www.redcross.org/prepare/hands-only-cpr to see lifesaving skills being taught or download the official American Red Cross First Aid app available for iPhone and Android devices. The American Red Cross First Aid app provides instant access to the information on how handle the most common first aid emergencies. The public can also register to take a full, certified CPR course at www.redcross.org/take-a-class or by calling  1-800-RED-CROSS.
