You have got to ask yourself… What are people thinking these days? Three separate shoplifting cases in Murfreesboro will have you scratching your head.

In one of the three cases, one female and two males entered the Ulta store in the Avenue and made their way to the perfume aisle. The perfume aisle is one of the first rows of merchandise you come to as you enter the store. Once at the aisle the subjects began stealing bottle after bottle of perfume. The police report shows that the three took well over $500 worth of perfume.  The suspects then ran from the store and jumped into a PT Cruiser and fled the scene. The suspects were caught on a surveillance video tape, but have yet to be identified. Authorities have not released the video as of Wednesday night.

In the second bold shoplifting incident, a man walked into the Walmart store on Old Fort Parkway, filled a cart full of groceries and tried to walk out of the store without paying for the goods. To be precise, the man is accused of stealing $505.80 worth of groceries. Unlike the first case, the suspect at Walmart was apprehended and charged with theft.

In the third case, a heavy set man entered the Kohl’s Department Store and fled through the rear fire escape door with 2 vacuum cleaners, a comforter and a pillow set. Keep in mind this is a man who stole these common household items. Here’s the kicker - - the vacuums were made by Dyson and two of them together are sold for over $1,300.

A video tape in the store clearly shows the man stealing the items, but he has not been caught by police. He is also a suspect in a second shoplifting case at Kohl’s in another town. He was caught on video in that theft as well. Because the theft is valued at more than $1,800 as opposed to a theft that is valued at less than $500, he could do several months of jail time if caught and convicted.

You may recall several weeks ago, several men entered the Lowe's store on old Fort Parkway and stole three Dyson vacuum cleaners. No arrests have been made in that case either.
