WGNS' Ron Jordan has more on this story...

Carlie was removed from school last week by her uncle by marriage, Gary Simpson (photo to right), under false pretenses. He had no custodial rights to Carlie. The TBI said on Thursday before she was located that they believed Carlie was in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.

Luckily, she was found by authorities in Hawkins County, Tennessee and Simpson was arrested. The extent of what occurred while Simpson was on the run with her is not known at this time.

Simpson will face Especially Aggravated Kidnapping charges in court in the near future.

Again, Carlie has been safely located and Simpson has been arrested.

Reports indicate Donnie Lawson and Stewart Franklin are the two men who found Simpson with the child. The two will likely be awarded the cash reward that was being offered by the TBI.

More Details about the Case:

A Rogersville man who was added to the TBI's Top Ten Most Wanted list Thursday was captured later that afternoon (5/12/2016) in Hawkins County.

Gary Simpson (mugshot right), 57, was wanted by the Rogersville Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for Especially Aggravated Kidnapping. On May 4th, Simpson kidnapped 9-year-old Carlie Marie Trent from school. He had no custodial rights to Carlie. Simpson was the suspect of the AMBER Alert that was issued last week for Carlie Trent.

Simpson was spotted Thursday afternoon by two Hawkins County residents who were with a group who had been searching their property. Simpson was with Carlie Trent, who was found safe. One of men held a gun on Simpson while the other man rescued Carlie and called 911.

Simpson was arrested and charged with one count of Especially Aggravated Kidnapping. He was booked into the Hawkins County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
