ARREST MADE in Monday Robbery of Taxi Cab Driver in Rutherford County

One suspect accused of robbing a taxi cab driver while holding a handgun against his ribs Monday was charged with aggravated robbery Thursday, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s detective said.

Suspect Darryl Buchanan, 26, of 432 E. Castle St . was arrested by Murfreesboro Police on East Main Street . Buchanan was booked on an additional charge of failing to appear in court on an unrelated charge.

Sheriff’s Detective Steve Brown said Murfreesboro Police helped identify Buchanan as the suspect Monday afternoon.Deputy Robert Horne reported Buchanan is accused of placing a handgun under the taxi driver’s rib and robbing him of his cell phone, taser and cash during a hold up about 3:30 a.m. Monday on Twin Oak Drive .

Originally, the taxi driver picked up the rider identified as Buchanan at Mapco Express on Almaville Road in Smyrna and drove him to Tremont apartments on Tremont Drive in Murfreesboro . Then, they drove to Twin Oak Drive off East Main Street where the suspect directed the driver to pull into the driveway of a vacant house where the robbery occurred.

Buchanan was being held on $10,000 bond. A hearing is set July 8 in General Sessions Court.Detective Brown thanked citizens, Murfreesboro Police and Sheriff’s Office employees who called in leads about Buchanan’s identity.
