How many times have you driven past a motel and asked the question, “I wonder what goes on in there day to day?” “Why are there always cars parked in front of that place all day long?”

We have heard about stories of prostitution in some motels, we have seen police reports from others in Rutherford County outlining drug arrests, rapes and robberies. One thing we haven’t done is to simply walk up to some of these motels and knock on the doors to find out what really goes on behind the dirty windows and dusty curtains. So we did just that to share with you some of the stories that we heard from behind the doors (See pictures HERE).

Many of those whom we came in contact with are living day to day, paycheck to paycheck to support their family. Residents like this one told us…

We talked to multiple residents who call some of the dirtiest looking motels in Rutherford County, home. One person we talked to told us that she has lived in a motel room for the past month. She moved to Murfreesboro from another city to get away from her abusive husband…

This woman tells us she had to move into a motel when her mother passed away last year…

We saw pictures of three children taped to a lamp in the hotel room, so we asked if she has kids. The woman said, “Yes.” We asked her where the kids were when we were there…

This man said that once you live in a motel, it’s hard to save the money to move out. He explained it like a cycle…

When you think of a motel, the first thing that comes to mind is maid service being included in the nightly fee you pay to stay at the establishment. That is not always true…

One man said he moved to Murfreesboro because he heard about jobs that were available, but said he only plans to stay here on a temporary basis…

We asked this resident how she was going to pay for her next night at the motel because she only has $20…

Another resident told us he was a roofer and when it is raining outside, he can’t work. A man sitting in his room eating a can of chili while watching TV told us he is aiming to receive a disability check to help pay for his extended stay. That man told us he was going to court in the near future for his disability case to be heard (See pictures HERE).

Now you know.
