Bud Brandon has stepped down as the Smyrna Lady Bulldogs girls basketball coach.

The two-time state championship coach was at Wilson Central prior to his stint at Smyrna. He told Monte Hale, Jr. of the Murfreesboro Post it was time for himself and for Smyrna High School. He said he and Principal Rick Powell mutually agreed it was time for a new direction.

Brandon, who has won over 330 games, says he'll look for other opportunities to contribute to basketball.

The Lady Bulldogs went 1-23 this past season, after posting a 17-11 mark last year. Brandon is the son of former Lascassas High School and Lebanon coach Campbell Brandon, who is a TSSAA Hall of Fame coach.

A search to replace Brandon is already underway.
