Fitzhugh Wins Republican Nomination for Sheriff

Incumbent Rutherford County Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh won his first election, defeating Republican challenger Jim Tramel. Fitzhugh was appointed sheriff after Robert Arnold was convicted and sentenced to four-years in prison for illegally selling electronic cigarettes to inmates.

Fitzhugh received 11,217 votes to challenger Jim Tramel's 2,962. He will now face independent challengers Bill West and Deric Haynes in the August county general election.
