Influx of Homeless Arrests Made in Recent Weeks in Murfreesboro

Over the past several months, WGNS has noticed an upswing in the arrests of local homeless persons in Rutherford County. Those arrested in recent days have been taken into custody under numerous charges, however two charges seem to stand out. Those two charges include “violation of probation” and “public intoxication.” That being said, many of the homeless persons in our community seem to have a past criminal history and many of the homeless population appears to be under probation at this time, based on the arrest records we have seen. This of course does not stand true for children who are homeless in Rutherford County. They are only the victim of their parents situation, be it a choice to be homeless or forced out of a living situation due to unemployment.

WGNS will continue to follow the story involving the influx of homeless persons being arrested in the Murfreesboro area and will continue to update our listeners.

On a side note, we welcome the chance to interview someone in this undesired living situation to give their side of the story. We have attempted to discuss the homeless situation with several homeless persons, but they did not want to go on the air with us. One noted that if he went on the air, he would be "tracked down and killed by the U.S. government." Statement’s like that fully highlight the mental illness problem that is prevalent on our local streets and the need for more mental help in our community.
